Why a supplier might prefer Alipay
Alipay is deeply embedded in how business and personal payments work inside China. For a smaller supplier, or one handling a repeat customer, receiving RMB into Alipay can be faster and more convenient than a bank transfer, particularly for modest invoice values where bank charges and processing time add friction.
That is a legitimate preference and it is worth accommodating, as long as you know exactly which account details you are sending to.
What to ask your supplier for
Ask for the exact RMB amount, their name as it appears on the Alipay account, their Alipay account identifier, and their Alipay QR code if the transaction requires one. Also ask for the invoice or order number, so the payment can be tied to the order on both sides.
Get these in writing. A screenshot of an Alipay profile is not the same as a confirmed account identifier, and if a mismatch appears later it is much easier to resolve with something written to refer back to.
Running the payment
Open a transaction and enter the RMB amount, then select Alipay as the recipient account type and enter the details you collected. Choose your funding method and submit. Pay the Ghana Cedis amount using your transaction reference, and the RMB will be delivered to the supplier's Alipay account once your payment is verified.
If the order involves a deposit and a balance, run them as two transactions with two references. It is easier to reconcile, and if there is ever a query it is clear which payment relates to which stage.
Keeping a record that helps you later
Save the transaction reference, the amount, the date and the invoice number together. If your supplier later asks which payment covered which order, you will have the answer immediately rather than searching back through messages.
