What Xianyu is
Xianyu — known in English as Idle Fish — is a Chinese marketplace for resale. Where 1688 is wholesale and Taobao is general retail, Xianyu is where individuals sell second-hand, unused and surplus items. It is popular for niche goods, discontinued products and items that are simply no longer made.
Prices are in RMB and settlement runs through Chinese payment systems, which is why a buyer in Ghana needs an RMB payment route rather than a card checkout.
The resale risk premium, stated plainly
Buying from a resale marketplace carries more risk than buying new, and it is worth being honest about that before you pay. Sellers are usually private individuals rather than businesses. Listings are frequently one of a kind, so a return or replacement may be impossible. Condition descriptions are the seller's own, and photographs can be flattering.
None of that makes Xianyu unusable — people find genuinely good items there. It does mean the checks belong before payment, not after.
Checks worth making before you pay
Ask for detailed photographs of the actual item, including any wear or faults. Ask about condition in plain terms rather than relying on a listing badge. Confirm how and by whom the item will be shipped, and who bears the cost. If the item is unique and irreplaceable, decide whether you are comfortable with no-return before money changes hands.
On the payment side, collect the exact RMB amount including any agent fee or domestic shipping, the recipient name as it appears on their account, the account type, the account identifier, and a QR code where used.

Start a transaction with the RMB amount and the recipient details, choose your funding method, and submit. Pay the Ghana Cedis amount with your transaction reference, then follow the status through to delivery.
